Canticle of the Sun. Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir & Valter Soosalu
Par pasākumu
For the first time, the versatile musician Valter Soosalu will take the podium in front of the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir, introducing audiences to the distinctive sound worlds of different composers and celebrating the time when new light emerges from silence and darkness. The concert programme features Tõnu Kõrvits’s The Canticle of the Sun, motets from James MacMillan’s The Strathclyde Motets, György Ligeti’s Lux aeterna, and a new work by Erkki-Sven Tüür.Soosalu: “To listen to music with full concentration, we need silence, an environment free from distracting sounds. An excess of sound exhausts us, makes us deaf, and prevents music from coming into being. To see clearly, we need light. But too much light blinds us, so we need just the right amount.Fortunately, nature gives us a season when everything unnecessary fades into darkness. If we know where to look, the things we truly value gradually begin to emerge. This is not simply a time of darkness, but a time to free ourselves from noise. The darkness is only apparent, helping us learn to see again. It is a time when new light is born. And that is precisely what we are celebrating with this concert.”
